Pro-Level Home Turf: Sam Burns Backyard Setup

Sam Burns broke through on Tour after starting his pro career in the year 2017 and has steadily advanced season after season. He’s earned multiple wins on the PGA Tour, including consecutive Valspar Championship wins and Korn Ferry Tour wins early in his career — achievements that explain why on-course feel matters to him.
PROJECT SNAPSHOT
Putting green: 1,000 sq ft — GB177 (Golden Bear Putt), color 301
Lawn turf grass: 1,500 sq ft — 164SW, color 301
Sand bunker: 144 sq ft — Artificial turf topped with real sand
Total project: 2,644 sq ft
THE PUTTING SURFACE: GB177 GOLDEN BEAR PUTT
Sam chose GB177 (color 301) for a practice green that plays like a true green. The short, dense pile gives authentic roll and consistent pace, so every stroke offers a lesson. For a player who works on feel between events, that consistency is key.

THE TURF LAWN: 164SW IN COLOR 301
The 1,500 sq ft lawn area uses 164SW in the coordinated color to maintain a uniform appearance from putting green to fringe. That space is ideal for warmups, pitch shots, family time, and keeping the outdoor space polished with low care needs.

THE BUNKER: REAL SAND OVER TURF
Instead of a faux bunker, Sam’s bunker uses real sand applied over artificial grass. That delivers realistic trap shots while preserving clean edges and easy maintenance around the green. It’s a great solution for anyone considering a synthetic grass installation with custom features.

WHY THIS LAYOUT WORKS
This setup blends practice with leisure play. A practice putting area lets Sam dial in speed and line. The urf lawn area provides gentile landing zones for shots and a place for family and friends to use. The bunker feature delivers authentic bunker practice without the hassle of full-size bunker maintenance.
Sam’s Career Highlights: Sam earned his first professional victory at the 2018 Savannah Golf Championship, finishing with birdies on the last three holes, and later collected additional Tour wins, including the Sanderson Farms and the Valspar Championship. He sharpened his game at LSU before rising on Tour.
